Challenge: Generating Ideas for Fanfiction Item Creation
Item creation is a staple of the Star Ocean universe. It's been in every game, and it's often been utilized as the way to either create better weapons, armor, and accessories for the playable characters or to improve what already exists. Many of the best restorative items are created through item creation. My personal favorite is the verduous potion in Till the End of Time. One hundred percent hit point recovery and, if you play it just right, you don't even have to be in a workshop to get the credit for inventing it.
This could fall into the realm of a fanfiction writing tip . . . however, I'm not going to write it as such . . . This is more of a challenge for fellow fanfiction authors. We write it. When it comes to item creation, we often utilize what's already available to us in the game. The idea for this is to generate NEW ideas in our stories (and in our artwork, if you're an artist) for weapons, armor, accessories and food . . . maybe even restorative items. Be careful, though, with inventing new kinds of restorative items. There aren't very many status ailments in the game, and I'm also someone who likes to read her fanfiction as an epic story, not a video game.
So how about it? Anyone up for the challenge? If so, let me know what you're thinking and where I can find it.

Call Out for Doujin and Official Star Ocean merchandise
In addition to compiling the official merchandise list for Star Ocean, I'm also looking for doujin/doujinshi titles. Please only compile what you have in your collections. I can find titles on eBay, but eBay doesn't cover the grand scope of things when it comes to doujinshi. Of course, the doujinshi list will probably never be complete due to the facts that not everyone can collect them all and often times doujin authors are coming out with more.
If you can't discern the titles of your doujin, please let me know. I'll contact someone or point people in the direction of others who can translate Japanese.
Aside from item creation, the UP3, and the words "Star Ocean", the games don't always have much in common. In fact, only three of the games can be tied together - The Last Hope, First Departure, and Second Story/Second Evolution, thanks to the appearance of Stephen D. Kenny, who provides the illustrious and perhaps the difficulty of having last name of Kenny for his future family members to deal with. Because there isn't much to tie games 1,2, and 4 with game 3, I've decided I'm going to create my own Star Ocean family tree for the Leingods.
I know I've brought up the possibilities in a previous entry, but I find the tracing of roots to be quite fascinating. Just how far back can the Leingods trace their family history? Does it, indeed, go back to the Kenny family? Does it even touch on the Maverick or Saionji families?
My answers will be forthcoming in fanfiction, and I hope those who read it enjoy what I've created.

Ask the Star Ocean Character - Deputy Director Shimada
Not sure what number this is . . . third, I believe (I need some more coffee) . . . anyway, this is yet another call out for Ask the Star Ocean Character. The character being interrogated, I mean interviewed, is Deputy Director Shimada. Limit three questions per person, and all questions must be submitted by midnight, Wednesday, May 16, 2012.
If you wish to remain anonymous or want a specific name to go with your questions, please let me know, and I will accommodate you. Questions can be submitted via PM or comment system.
