star_ocean_fan: (Star Ocean 3 game cover)
I'm hoping quite a bit, actually, but I do need to look at my old updating schedules to find out what I used to do. I feel awful that I haven't kept up with this as much as I'd like, but then that's what happens when life gets in the way and other things (like sleeping, working, and eating) take precedence. I'm currently not working as I write this, but, given I work for a temp agency, that could change today or not at all for another week or two. We'll see what happens (and I'm not being idle, either).

With all of the bemoaning out of the way, it's time to get a few things set up. First, the Star Ocean Character Birthday List. Yes. I completed it a while ago. I just haven't posted it. Also, I'd like to take this moment to say that, just because I've designated birthdays for characters who don't have them that others MUST use them. If you've loved a character enough to designate when you celebrate that birthday, by all means, let me know. These are primarily for fanfiction and fanart purposes, and I try to post the entries in the actual journals at livejournal and dreamwidth as opposed to here. (And, so everyone knows, fanfiction and fanart that isn't my own does not get posted without permission. If you chose to send any artwork, photography, and writing my way, it's yours to post wherever you want.) The astericks denote where the birthdays are unofficial and are, obviously, assigned by me.

**************************************************************************************************

I posted this to the facebook page. Now I need to post it here. (Thanks to missnox for asking this question to me on dA and thus prompting me to find out for sure.) I must apologize to everyone for not knowing that Crispin Freeman, who was an Otakon guest along with Kyle Herbert (both of whom I did not get autographs), voiced Albel Nox for the English version of Till the End of Time. If I had been just a little more aware of who my English VAs are for the games, I would have forgone lunch and found the autograph line a helluva lot sooner than I did. I promise to do better the next time I'm at a larger convention where lines are absolutely crazy for things like the dealer's room, artist's alley, and basically all autograph panels.

Now, onto the reminder: Next weekend Laura Bailey (Reimi and Welch) and Travis Willingham (Bacchus, King of Astral) will be in Washington, D.C., next weekend for Anime USA at the Marriott Wardman Park hotel. Kyle Herbert (Dias Flac, Star Ocean: Second Evolution; Crowe F. Almedio and Arumat P. Thanatos, Star Ocean: The Last Hope) will be making an appearance at YoumaCon, which runs from October 31 to November 3 in Detroit. I'm going to get my voice actor lists compiled (Japanese and English) so I can keep an eye out for who is going to be where so fans can make plans accordingly.

Ask the Star Ocean Character - Roger S. Huxley

Hello once again, everyone, and welcome back to Ask the Star Ocean Character! Joining us this week is Roger S. Huxley from Surferio! Hello, Roger, and thank you for joining us.

**************************************************************************************************
Character Facts

Name: Roger S. Huxley
Age: 12
Height: 85 cm; 3'1"**
Weight: 30 kg; 66 lbs
English Voice Actor: Mona Marshall
Japanese Voice Actor: Mari Maruta
Weapons: Helms, mainly, and axes.
Homeworld: Elicoor II
Race: Menodix
Quote from the game manual: Sometimes a real man's just gotta keep on goin'.

While it is entirely possible to avoid recruiting Roger entirely, he is one of a few characters who has toys. Kotobuyika and Trading Arts each released a Roger PVC, each with a different pose. (There are four total, if one counts the color and clear/ivory variants.)

Roger is the only one who, if you don't recruit him and bypass him entirely, has an ending.

He was born and raised in the Lost City of Surferio. His father is the Village Chief.

Item Creation Stats:
Roger adds a -5 factor to all time it takes on Item Creation. He has no effect on the cost.
Cooking - 2
Alchemy -  6
Crafting - 35
Compounding - 6
Smithery - 23
Writing - 4
Engineering - 20
Synthesis - 10

** - Star Ocean wikia lists Roger's height as 2', 9.5" - the 3'1" comes from both the game's manual and strategy guide which I feel is more accurate.

**************************************************************************************************

Character Study - Roger S. Huxley

From the game's strategy guide: Roger S. Huxley is a little boy with a humungous ego and an equally large talent for getting into trouble. Roger S. Huxley is a Menodix, a common species of humanoid that lives mostly in the Sanmite Republic. His father is the Village Chief in the Lost City of Surferio. Roger can usually be found hanging with his two pals, thinking up new challenges for their ongoing Real Man Contest.

Roger is not one of my favorite characters nor is he really one of my least favorites. I wish I could say he was annoying on the level that Meracle is, but he, sadly, does not have the tragic past she does to excuse why he is the way he is. In truth, knowing that he the Village Chief's son makes it all the more understandable as to why he's such a rude jerk when he doesn't get his way with Cliff and Fayt in their first encounter. Roger very much does have the humungous ego mentioned in the game's strategy guide, he is quite rude, especially to other males (namely Fayt and Cliff - there are no real interactions between him and the other supporting male cast of Adray and Albel). The manga took on a more real twist with Roger when he first appears in Duggus Forest. He thinks he can screw around and yank on Fayt's chain as they're looking for Ameena Leffeld, and it turns out his efforts are not very much appreciated. He tries to prove himself yet again by helping in finding the illness-struck young girl and ends up in a battle he wasn't expecting. He does become useful against the mud monster because, while he's done and trying to counteract the poison of the creature, Cliff points out real men don't run away.

Roger in the manga is certainly more interesting as a flawed character than Roger in the game.

From the in-game dictionary: A young Menodix boy who lives in the Lost City of Surferio.
This major problem child travels around with two bad influences named Dribe and Melt, and plays life-threatening games with Lucien, Lezard, and Vellion, all as part of a so-called Real Man Contest.
It would be a good idea to keep an eye on this one, as he is always buying trouble with his rude words.

At this point, here is where I disagree with this assessment of Roger, or at least his friends, Dribe and Melt. If any of them seem to be the bad influence, it's Roger. Melt will protest when something sounds too dangerous. Dribe will just speak in enigmatic riddles. Roger himself really has no sense of self-preservation in the game, especially after you've rescued him and gone to recruit him after the whole Ameena incident. (Which recruiting Roger will lower Albel's affinity for Fayt but is necessary if the player wants some really unique restorative items.)

Roger could be a very interesting character if a fanfiction writer wants the opportunity to play. Here is a spoiled child who thinks he's a real man, is quite the big flirt with Nel, but he still possesses no idea of how reality actually works. Yes, he's one of a few recruitable characters who goes up against the Creator, but it isn't quite the life-changing event he needs in order to grow up. (You'd think it would be, but given his solo ending and his ending with Fayt, you realize it isn't so.) If in the hands of a capable fanfiction writer, Roger could grow to be an interesting, multi-faceted character. Otherwise, he's just a spoiled child pretending to be an adult.

**For the Roger fans: Yes, I know my assessment of this character is harsh. It kind of needs to be since many of the characters in these games, including my beloved Fayt, tend to be a little more one-dimensional than not.

Thus concludes the entry for today.
star_ocean_fan: (Immoral Feather)
I'm sure I have no hope of catching up on anything, either. At, least not for the first part of the year or for birthdays, official and unofficial. So, what I'm thinking of doing is this: I'm going to post the long list of birthdays. Anyone who wishes to submit a piece of art, story, or poetry may do so with the rules regarding writing and artwork remaining intact. I will still aim to post stuff for holidays. I will aim to get more fanfiction in general posted as well and try (for the love all that's holy and divine!) to get Ask the Star Ocean Character back on track.

Breaking news:

Square Enix is releasing a mobile, card-based game for Japanese fans at this time. The announcement was made here: http://s1.zetaboards.com/Star_Ocean_Universe/topic/5185869/1/#new

Not quite what we're looking for on this, but the forum gives me hope that the fandom is still alive and well.

Star Ocean Online

If there's one thing I can say that I'm glad about, it's that Star Ocean's popularity hasn't quite reached the same level as Final Fantasy. Don't get me wrong on this. I do wish the series was more popular, but, at the same time it's a curse, it's also a blessing. There are no online versions of the game to be bought.

Please understand. I'm of the opinion that there can never be enough Star Ocean games. I'm hoping to resume and finish Game Talk  as time allows. However, an online MMORPG version of Star Ocean would probably fare about as well as the Final Fantasy online games, which is not very well. These games are designed in Japan, released there first, and, by the time they are released in the U.S., the Japanese players have already finished. There's nothing left, and their opinions of such games are scattered on the internet.

Plus, there's the issue of cost. Most MMORPGs are free to play. Why would I pay upwards of $40 for an online game when I can play World of Warcraft or Dungeons and Dragons Online for free? (Yes, I know that, for WoW, it's a basic account, and if you want to keep going after a certain point, you do have to buy like a gaming card or something - I'd have to ask my brother, who's played both WoW and D&D Online.)

Of course, the flip side to this is, while I feel Star Ocean may not be suited for online game play, I could also be wrong. The series could very well be suited for it. It is very difficult to say when it hasn't happened and probably never will.

Ask the Star Ocean Character - Roger S. Huxley and Adray Lasbard

If you have some questions for Roger, I'll still accept them and add them in before I post it. In the meantime, I'm accepting questions for Adray Lasbard from Till the End of Time. Is there something about him you'd like to know? Please ask! Questions can be submitted via comment, email (luthersfayt@gmail.com and thestaroceanuniverse@gmail.com), or private message. Limit three questions per person, no profanity please.

Note: This is by no means OFFICIAL. This is me delving into the characters' minds for a bit of fun. Granted, Ask the Star Ocean Character for the blogs is on hold right this moment, but I'm still accepting questions.

Fanfic status update:
Still working on it!

*********************************************************************************

CALLING ALL STAR OCEAN FANS!!

Next month, I'll be in attendance at Otakon. The convention is in Baltimore, Maryland, and will run from August 9 through 11. I will be with Kojika. Sadly, because of the on and off working I've been doing (days not working here, a week or so there), I will not have my Fayt Leingod cosplay ready in time for the convention. I am hoping, however, to work on it after Otakon and have it ready for possible attendances to Ramencon and Youmacon.

In the meantime, here's some Star Ocean cosplay pictures for you!

I hope everyone's having a fun and safe Memorial Day weekend so far. As of right this moment, today's the only downtime I've gotten since leaving work Friday afternoon. However, I'm not going to complain because everything has been worth it.

You see, this weekend was busy not only because we're gearing up for the end of the school year, but three people in my family - two cousins and my nephew - have graduated high school. Their open houses (or graduation parties - however you call it where you live) were on Saturday and Sunday. So a very big and heartfelt Congratulations to the Class of 2013. As I told my cousin Rachel on Saturday (not at her party but at the store where I saw her and my aunt), the next part of your journey begins.

And speaking of journeys, graduation, and all that, I want to take a moment and reflect on the following for the Star Ocean universe: Has anyone noticed that the only high school student in the whole series is Sophia Esteed? Yes, there are other characters that are younger than Sophia, but it's never mentioned what kind of schools those characters attend or even if they do. Sophia is the only one who has yet to start that next beginning of her life, but even so, the events of Till the End of Time are, in my mind, a perfect example of the following: how we think our lives should go and how they actually turn out.

You see, in life, there are no promises to get what we think we deserve. It's full of hardships, and I think it's great that such moments are depicted in our video games. Look at the moments of self-doubt and self-hatred Edge and Fayt put themselves through when certain events are triggered. To say it's just fiction and in no way reflects on real life does reality a great injustice. Reality isn't perfect. Even though we're not into space travel and exploration and working with life from other planets doesn't mean we still don't experience great joy and great despair in our lives.

So, to the graduating class of 2013, wherever you are and if you're reading this, please remember that reality, in many ways, does reflect science fiction and vice versa. Science fiction merely puts the stress of every day life into an alternate setting. And, again, congratulations on making it this far in life.

With that said, onwards with more Star Ocean universe business.

Star Ocean Universe fanzine and cookbook

As of right this moment, I'm putting the fanzine on hold. I will not have anything ready for Otakon. There are some reasons for this.

1 - Transportation.
I won't have a way to transport however many issues with me to the convention. I don't own a car, and I'm not sure how much space is going to be available with Kojika. At this point, I'm taking Indian Trails to either Gary, Indiana, or Chicago, Illinois - whichever is more convenient for Ko for her to pick me up.
2 - Finances.
Finances are a very huge issue right now, thanks to the upcoming move in July/August and Otakon in August. Plus there are my cosplay costs. I feel like the mad scramble to get everything done has started, and I'm nowhere near ready.

As for the cookbook - I've been thinking about it, and I'm considering a couple of different things. One is to move away from the kinds of foods created in the series. Most of it already exists, and recipes are available online. Another is to utilize those recipes, put my own unique twist on them, and come up with ones themed for Star Ocean. A third is just to come up with my own Star Ocean themed recipes. I'm liking Option #2 the best.

Star Ocean fan event

I'm still not getting enough feedback on this, which is okay. I've been debating as to when I'd like to hold such an event, and I'm now leaning towards sometime in 2015 as opposed to 2014. The reason for this is there's a lot I want to do just for this particular event alone, and I'm going to need the time to get everything done.

Ask the Star Ocean Character - Roger S. Huxley and Adray Lasbard

If you have some questions for Roger, I'll still accept them and add them in before I post it. In the meantime, I'm accepting questions for Adray Lasbard from Till the End of Time. I'm certainly not a happy camper right at this moment, but, oh! The joys, the joys!

All things considered, I really can't complain too  much. After a brief few weeks of not working (but still not posting - bad me), I'm back to working again, and I feel like I just never have enough time in the day to do everything I need to do. That's nothing new, really, but a few things are that I'm hoping to overcome.

That said . . . well, it's time to get back into the groove of Star Ocean.

News:
As everyone knows, there really isn't anything new, game-wise. Sad, but not entirely unexpected, either. Other games are enjoying more popularity than the Star Ocean series. I am tempted to fire off another email to Square Enix and to find out at which conventions they'll have representatives. I can't promise I'll make it to those particular conventions, but I can promise to try. (Note: In the event that I do get to a convention where Square Enix has representatives and panels, I can't promise I'll come back with any kind of news. Their biggest selling point to keep fans interested, it seems, is the Final Fantasy series. Nothing wrong with it, but, as we all know, there are other games in addition to that.)

Cosplay:
The wig for my Fayt Leingod cosplay has long since arrived. It's still in its plastic bag and is awaiting washing. I do have the material, some thread, and a pattern to sew Fayt's white shirt. I haven't started sewing yet because, well, one, I'm feeling particularly lazy about it on my days off. Two, my sewing skills are lacking, and, three . . . I'm not quite ready yet, weight-wise, to make the shirt. The material I bought was a little on the expensive side, and I have no way to get back to Jo-Ann's for a while to get more if I screw it up. The beginnings are here! That's something!

Also, I have some cosplay photos of Leon from Star Ocean: Second Story by Brittany Peterson to post. Thanks to Brittany in advance for sending them my way. I haven't forgotten that they're in my inbox! It shames me to admit, but I just haven't been very motivated lately to  much of anything regarding any fandom I enjoy.

Merchandise:
I have added to my Star Ocean collection. I do recall saying that I'd settled on something to purchase. The figures have long since arrived and a photo of them taken. However, I'm not entirely happy with the backdrops I have (meaning, I don't have any whatsoever) to take pictures of my Star Ocean stuff. The lighting (and the walls) of my home make everything look yellow when I take pictures. Given that my collections (no matter what they be for) are very dear to me, I want to take the best photos possible. This is stuff I'm proud to own. I want my pictures to reflect that. Plus . . . I want to get more stuff.

Conventions:
Ah, the wonderful thing about plans is that they're subject to change at a moment's notice. Regarding my tentative convention schedule, I will be taking NMACon off of the list. This is mainly due to the fact that I have no idea where I'm going to be living come September, be it in Oklahoma, Washington, or Pennsylvania. YoumaCon may be off that list as well. It just depends on where I end up after the summer. Otakon, however, is still on that list. It's been a long time since I've attended a really good convention and over a year since I've attended any conventions at all. I'll keep my fellow fans posted as to which conventions I'll be attending.

Conversation Topics:
Still working on that. I wrote a lot of things last year, and I may go back to some previous ones to see if there's anything I can or change. Plus, with the working (and totally into watching The Avengers and Captain America: The First Avenger), I haven't played much in the way of games. Planning a weekend, though!

Ask the Star Ocean Character:
I'm going to keep this on hiatus for another month. I'm still accepting questions for Adray Lasbard, but, until I can get myself to where I can post and write in the hours before and after work, I can't promise when I'll have everything ready. Roger's segment is done. All that remains is to prepare the character facts and study.

Fanfiction:
Yeah, I haven't been doing very well wit this, either. Nothing for the birthdays or holidays or even on Destinies. I feel so horrible about that. Need to change it, and I will.

That concludes this for today. Hope everyone is having a wonderful Monday and drinking lots of caffeinated beverages!

~Dragonfly
star_ocean_fan: (Default)
As the subject line says, I'm making some adjustments. It isn't that I want to do this. It's that I'm still not getting the balancing act figured out yet between journaling, writing, and work. I'm not complaining that I'm working. I love that I am . . . I'm complaining about not getting up when I want to because I'm tired. I may have to trick myself after today. :)

Anyway, here is the deal. Come hell or high water, I will be posting Roger's Ask the Star Ocean Character segment this month. I hate to do it, but I haven't had a chance to ask people in other places yet . . . Adray's segment will be postponed until March 31st, 2013. I don't want to do this, but, given how busy I've been during the week, it's something I need to do in order to give others a chance to submit questions and the like.

Now with that, I want to mention cosplay.

I previously noted that I am accepting submissions for a variety of fan-related projects - fiction, art work, poetry, cosplay, plushies, etc . . . The rules for this were posted in the previous entry. What I would like to do is, at least once a month, post a cosplay corner. The frequency in which I post the cosplay corner will depend upon how many photos I get. There is no deadline for anyone to submit anything when it comes to cosplay (or other fan-projects; just holidays and birthdays). Submit the pictures whenever you want and as many as you want. If you attended a convention and want to report on the doings of that, my only requirement is that it's well-written. Unless you specifically ask me to do so, I will not proofread it as I am very short on time in the hours before and after work. Until I can start tricking myself into getting up earlier.

And that concludes the adjustments I'm making for this blog. Have a few other new projects in mind, but we'll see how everything goes in the next few weeks.

Merchandise and Personal Cosplay Update

One thing that I was looking forward to with landing a job was resuming my searching and purchasing of Star Ocean merchandise, both official and unofficial (doujinshi falls under unofficial). Yesterday, I surfed through eBay, found a few things to save in my watch list. Right now, it's a matter of getting enough saved and deciding what I want to get first. It's also being smart about my money, too.

Also, I'm gearing up for my Edge Maverick, Fayt Leingod and Luther Lansfeld cosplays. Luther will definitely take me a lot longer than what either Edge or Fayt will - I have PVC figures of Fayt and one of Edge as well as the strategy guides for Till the End of Time and The Last Hope. I have a handful of screenshots for Luther. I know which is more beneficial for me in getting everything I need. (I'm also gearing up for another cosplay for another fandom, too. That one is going to be just as fun.) Right now, for Luther and Edge, it's finding the right wig that I can interchange between both of them.

Note: I do plan on creating variants for established characters. It will be fun.

********************************************************************

Convention Update

So my plans this year for conventions were to attend ShutoCon, which is in Lansing, Michigan, Otakon, and YoumaCon, which is in Detroit. It looks like ShutoCon is out. It's coming up in April, and I may be working that weekend. I would have to double-check when I get to work. I may supplement with NMACon to make up for ShutoCon. It just depends on what my finances will allow me to do for the interim. Otakon, however, is the big one that I really want to attend.

I will keep my fellow Star Ocean fans updated on the whole convention thing and whether or not I'll be cosplaying.

This concludes everything for today. Happy Hump Day, everyone. Tomorrow, I will be getting to the last question I asked. If you're just tuning into the Star Ocean Universe, here it is once more:

Question: What are Luther's true motivations for trying to destroy the Eternal Sphere?

Friday and Saturday look very iffy on the posting fronts. We'll see what happens.

Until the next time!

Right now, the weekly schedule is out the window EXCEPT for Ask the Star Ocean Character. I'm going to do some flipping for the week so . . . next week will be better. I promise.

Ask the Star Ocean Character - Roger S. Huxley

I'm now taking questions for Roger S. Huxley from Star Ocean: Till the End of Time. Questions can be submitted between now and midnight, December 11, 2012. Limit three questions per character per person, and keep the questions clean of vulgarity and sex talk. I will not use any questions submitted if the person is swearing at the character. Yes, I do realize that this is a fictional universe. There is swearing and sexual situations implied, but I do not tag very many things as containing adult content for this journal. It means anyone of any age can read it. I hate to sound mean about this, but I want to keep this as clean and inoffensive for everyone as much as possible. I don't care if you dislike the character and the question reflects that, but I do care if you use foul language to demonstrate it. I want this to be fun for everyone, not a select few. I realize that I'm a tad bit behind on making this announcement, but better late than never, right?

Also, please let me know if you wish for me to use a specific user ID or wish to remain anonymous. If you don't, I'll use whatever ID I know you by when posing the questions to the character. Questions can be submitted to me via comments, PM, or email (luthersfayt@gmail.com)

Impromptu December Birthday List

I'll get that list done throughout the week and post if I decide any birthdays are this week.
star_ocean_fan: (Star Ocean 3 game cover)
Okay, so yesterday was a bust on getting the conversation topic and the next segment of Destinies Intertwined by Fate up, but that's just how it goes sometimes. I'm not too entirely thrilled by it, but it's my own fault for not getting everything done, but then it isn't like I won't have ample opportunity to post the next sections throughout the month. I will get the next segments posted! I will finish the story!

CALL OUT FOR CHRISTMAS/UPCOMING HOLIDAY SEASON

Okay, this is going to very much flow in the same vein as Halloween. For the upcoming holiday season in December, I am seeking out the following:

photos - cosplay, figures, etc . . .
fan art
fan fiction

There are quite a few holidays in December so Star Ocean fans have their pick. There is Hanukkah, Kwanza, Christmas Eve, Christmas, Yule/the winter solstice, New Year's Eve, and New Year's. If I'm missing anything, please let me know, and I will gladly add it to the list. I would very much like to celebrate Star Ocean style. If anyone has or would like to do anything for the holidays in the month of December in terms of cosplay photography, figure/toy photography, fan art, and fan fiction, I will gladly post it to the journals. Credit will be given to the people who submit something. Please keep stories to one-shots. I'll accept chaptered fiction as long as it's complete. When submitting stories (and poetry - I'll accept poetry, too), please include the following:

Title:
World:
Character/s:
Pairing/s, if applicable:
Rating:
Warnings:
Disclaimer:
Claimer on any OCs:
Summary:
Author's Note/s, if applicable:

Please email all submissions to me at luthersfayt@gmail.com, and they can be sent to me at any time until midnight of the day before the holiday of choice (Christmas isn't the only holiday next month, and I will be all inclusive for the holidays celebrated). Stories, artwork, and photography do not need to be and will not exclusive to the journals so if you want to post them to other sites like fanfiction.net, dA, tumblr, etc . . ., you can. As far as I'm concerned, such works are not mine to say where they can and can't go on the web. I can only say that for my works.

As far as the artwork and stories go, NO EXPLICIT MATERIAL. Please keep the profanity to an acceptable level. My journal entries are public so that means anyone and everyone of all ages can read them so please use discretion should you decide to write something for the blogs.

Conversation Topic - Bonus Board Comparison: Till the End of Time vs. The Last Hope

The other night, I turned on my PlayStation 2 with the first disk of Till the End of Time in the console. I recruited Roger (which took away affinity points for Fayt from Albel but you get some really nice goodies by recruiting Roger that you wouldn't otherwise), and I switched Cliff out for him. Because of my high levels (in the twenties range for Fayt, Cliff and Nel not too far behind him), bringing Roger out enabled for me to fill up my bonus board that I wouldn't be able to do with Cliff, Nel, and Fayt.

This, naturally, got me to thinking about the similarities and differences between Till the End of Time's and The Last Hope's bonus boards. Both boards have three things in common: increase in experience, increase in gold, and an increase rate of recovery at the end of the battle.  One key difference in what the boards dole out for bonuses is Till the End of Time has an increased chance for an item whereas The Last Hope increases the group's skill points for item creation (and can only be obtained by being ambushed in battle). Players of both games know that, in Till the End of Time, to get all four battle bonuses, the board has to remain intact for up to twenty battles and then some afterwards. In The Last Hope, it's based on whether the player is ambushed (green; increase skill points), lands a critical finish on an enemy (blue; 10% extra experience at the end of the battle), uses skills or magic only on an enemy (pink; 10% hit and magic points recovery at the end of the battle), and killing multiple enemies at once (yellow; 10% fol increase at the end of each battle).

I like how The Last Hope has set up the battle bonus board. I like that, as the controller of whichever character, I can find the ways to build the battle bonus board up without having to worry if my levels are too high. I also like that, if an enemy lands a critical hit on the controlled character, it doesn't take out the entire board. However, I also dislike it. I don't like that it can be filled up rather easily with the same color tiles.  That's where I like Till the End of Time's bonus board better. The amount of additional experience, fol, and recovery earned are set. You just have to keep the board in one piece.

Game Talk, Part Seven -  Five to Ten Years After Till the End of Time

Yes, I'm skirting around the sequel I want to see with Fayt, Luther, Albel, and the rest of the original Till the End of Time cast. I'm doing it on purpose. This will follow what I want to see for a direct sequel and is actually sparked from a fan fiction piece I started to read on fanfiction.net. I liked the concept behind this story, but I didn't like the handling of some of the OCs, grammatically issues, and the author's OTP. (That's something that just goes without saying.) I also want to remind people that these Game Talks are nothing more than just wishful thinking on my part. They are not anything official from tri-Ace or Square Enix so please don't get all excited for these "new" games. It's what I'm wishing for; nothing more and nothing less.

For the fan fiction piece itself - it takes place within a year or so of Luther's defeat. The author's OTP is that of Fayt and Maria, but the author included the descendants of the Kenny, Maverick, and Saionji families. (How the Saionji family name lived on directly through Reimi is something I question, but I have a few ideas as to how it can work.) Fayt and Maria are planning a wedding (and Maria wants a fancy affair to remember, something I feel is slightly out of character for her, but that's also my interpretation of her from what I've observed about her) and they're also intergalactic peacekeepers. Quark no longer exists, and they're of high rank on a ship with soldiers. On the ship with them are Albel, Nel, Cliff, and Mirage, and, of course, the descendants of the Kenny family, Edge Maverick, and Reimi Saionji. War is brewing, and Luther has his fingers in the pie, so to speak, still bent on destroying the anamolies.

I like this particular concept. I like that, in the wake of the Creator's defeat, there is chaos and rebuilding. Nothing is stable, nothing is safe. I like that the descendants are struggling to live up to their families' reputations, and I like that Edge and Reimi didn't make it as a viable couple. It adds tension between the crew members and adds to the headache for the leaders on the ship.

Because I like this concept very well, I'd like to see it be applied to a potential Star Ocean game. This is the sequel to my sequel. Pairings could be established through the use of a code, i.e. if you get Fayt/Mirage, Fayt/Cliff, etc . . . in the first sequel, the game would give you a code you enter before starting and playing the next sequel. That way the player can enjoy the pairing s/he worked for in the sequel (and in Till the End of Time). I'd like to see the descendants of Edge and Reimi as separate entities, and the Kenny family having to earn their wings, so to speak, under seasoned fighters like Albel and Fayt in the nitty gritty of battle on various planets, some with technology, others underdeveloped.

Personally, I don't want to see Luther as the main/final boss. It would be too easy to have all of the problems in the Eternal Sphere be blamed on Luther. I think this would actually be a great time to see a resurgence in the Grigori, which I firmly maintain are the reasons why Luther ends going insane in Till the End of Time. As for the Creator's role in this game, I feel that if he and Fayt could establish some kind of an agreement and way to work together, it would give the game play an interesting balance.

No deviations from the kinds of fields for the characters or in the post game dungeons. The tried and true symbologists, swordsmen, martial artists, and archers would be great.
